Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Robert (Rob) Saale is the current Director of the Hostage Recovery Fusion Cell (HRFC), a U.S. Government Interagency organization directly responsible to the President of the United States for coordinating recovery efforts for U.S. hostages held abroad.
Prior to his appointment as Director of the HRFC in March 2017 Mr. Saale served in a variety of roles as a Senior Executive and FBI Special Agent within the Bureau. Among his various assignments Mr. Saale recently served as Assistant Special Agent in Charge of one of the FBI’s top 13 US based field offices where he successfully led numerous federal investigations of violent and white-collar criminals, terror suspects, and fugitives from justice. As a Special Agent, Mr. Saale was highly regarded as an investigator receiving numerous awards for investigative excellence including Virginia Gang Investigator of the Year in 2008. Special Agent Saale also served as an FBI SWAT commander, SWAT Team member, and was one of the original members of the FBI Directors Protective Detail formed in 2001.
Mr. Saale graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from of the University of Louisiana Monroe and is a 2014 graduate of the Marine Corps War College where he received a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies. Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. Saale served as an Aviator in the United States Army.
