Membership Commitment

#NatSecGirlSquad is not your traditional professional development community. With that in mind, we like to be upfront about what to expect from The Organization and what the Community expects from itself.

#NatSecGirlSquad works to support each member in defining success for themself, enabling them to achieve that definition, and then encouraging them to repeat that process again and again and again. We are enthusiastic about our obligation to one another, celebrate that we are stronger when we work together, and we embrace our individual commitment to our own professional development.

The Organization does this by:

  1. Providing and protecting the tools necessary to find and create opportunities.

  2. Building and maintaining information sharing mechanisms for Members and the Extended Community to use and contribute to (ex/ our website and social media, the OpenSource Listserv, the hashtag, LinkedIn group, on Herd Mentality).

  3. Modeling and expanding professional and personal possibilities (through programming, micro-certifications, Working Groups and events) so Members can design their own versions.

  4. Intentionally working to eliminate knowledge and access gaps through research- and member-informed efforts and partnerships.

  5. Reducing the operational burden of execution so more members engage on their own terms (funding and providing operational, administrative, and programming planning and execution tools) and help meet can their own needs.

In summary: #NatSecGirlSquad is not the answer to all your questions or the solution to all your challenges - we’re here to help you formulate the question, find the people to ask, evaluate the responses, and move forward  on your own terms.

In turn, Becoming a Member of #NatSecGirlSquad means you are committing to:

  1. The Code of Conduct and Mission Statement.

  2. Doing more than attend events and open emails - whether that means you contribute to the Listserv, post on Herd Mentality, host or facilitate an event, invite a new colleague for coffee, or tell someone you appreciate their time, effort, or contribution.

  3. Responding when someone asks for help or information and you have something to share

  4. Asking for help or suggestions so others have the chance to share with you!

  5. Contributing to and celebrating one another’s successes, having one another’s back in the tricky times, and knowing there is more than enough room for *everyone.*

In summary: If you’re not getting what you need, speak up with a solution or the willingness to contribute to one
